Ladybird Lake, Austin, TX
Ladybird Lake is a 416-acre reservoir located in Austin, TX. The lake is a recreational resource at the heart of Austin and is surrounded by a park and trail system and used extensively for recreation. In August of 2019, multiple dogs died while playing and swimming around the lake due to algal toxins which sparked a large public concern. To date the project has resulted in a 77% reduction in bio-available phosphorus in the sediment, a shift to more desirable species of algae, and much lower levels of toxins compared to 2019 and 2020.
